On Sunday 10th May, we were joined by hundreds of racers, volunteers, spectators and supporters at our Race Day at Milton Creek Country Park. From the 10K and 5K races to the family fun run, the atmosphere throughout the day was incredible, and we are still buzzing from such a brilliant event!

Among all of the amazing moments throughout the day, one stood out as particularly unforgettable...

Tommy proposes to Rebecca at the finish line

As soon as Tommy reached the finish line, he got down on one knee and asked Rebecca to marry him! Tommy (Oakley’s dad) was running the race as part of Team Oakley - along with Soph (Oakley’s Auntie), Harry (Oakley’s Uncle) and Katie (family friend). Together they have raised £1,305 so far in support of our NICU.

Rebecca explains their reason for running:

Oakley was admitted to NICU at 24 hours old in November, where he had a lumbar puncture due to really high infection markers and was on high flow oxygen. Whilst his stay in NICU was only short (4 days), we saw the amazing work the team did, and wanted to be able to support the unit.

Before proposing at the finish line, Tommy completed our Race Day 10K in 47 minutes and 49 seconds. He says he "found the run challenging, but it was for a great cause and having the ring in my pocket for the whole 10k and knowing what I was going to do at the finish line gave me the extra boost!"

A huge congratulations to you both, and thank you to Team Oakley for your support. What an unforgettable Race Day moment!

Race Day brought together so many amazing people fundraising to support our NICU, and we are so grateful to everybody who took part, volunteered, donated and cheered everybody on throughout the day.

We would also like to say a huge thank you to the businesses and organisations who supported this year’s event:

  • SGS Accounting, our medal sponsor

  • Bell Glazing, our bib sponsor

  • Striders, who provided pacers

  • Nice Work, our race partner

  • Kelly Askew PT, who helped everybody warm up

  • SFM, for the tunes throughout the day

  • Regal Vehicle Hire, for helping us out with a van

  • Milton Creek Country Park, for providing such a brilliant outdoor space

Plus a thank you to all of our stall holders too!

We had a fantastic team of volunteers who, without them, Race Day would not have been possible. Thank you to all of our volunteers, Race Marshalls, trustees, Squadron 2230 cadets, and of course Oliver Bear, who joined us for the whole event!

Thank you again to everybody who made Race Day 2026 so special - we hope to see you all again next year! 🏅
